The Power Of Your Words

I hope you all have had a beautiful week so far, and that God has given you little winks throughout the last few days. I’ve been marinating on the power of our words and the dominion we carry through the way we speak about ourselves and to each other.

“A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips, he shall be filled.” — Proverbs 18:20

Think about that for a second. We don’t just speak words into the air; whatever comes out of our mouths eventually comes back around and feeds us. Every declaration, every complaint, every “I can’t,” or every “I am,” we are the first ones to consume it.

Genesis 1 shows us a God who didn’t just think the world into being… He spoke it. “Let there be light,” and there was light. He declared His will, and it came to pass. Every single time.

And here’s the beautiful, weighty truth: we are made in His image (Genesis 1:27), and we carry the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead (Romans 8:11). If God created the world through declaration, and that same creative Spirit lives in us, then our words aren’t just noise; they are seeds.

We are planting a garden with our mouths every single day, whether we mean to or not.

So, what are you planting? Ask yourself honestly this Wednesday: What have I been saying about myself lately? What have I spoken over myself concerning my body, my future, my capacity, and my worth? What have I been speaking over the people I love? Am I feeding myself life, or am I feeding myself death?

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” — Proverbs 18:21

We choose what we cultivate: life or death. This doesn’t mean pretending things are fine when they’re not or slapping a positive phrase over real pain. It means bringing your words under the authority of who God says you are, rather than letting your circumstances or your fear write the script. It means speaking to your body with kindness. Speaking to your children with faith instead of frustration. Speaking to your own heart the way God speaks to you: with patience, with hope, and with truth.

The world gets it! People talk about “daily affirmations” all the time. Even science shows evidence of the power in our tongues, the way atoms shift in the air, in water, and in plants based on what we speak.

You have dominion in your mouth today. Use it wisely.
