Devoted To Prayer

“Devote yourselves to prayer…” Colossians 4:2

The word devote speaks of steadfast commitment, not convenience. Paul is calling believers to give prayer a fixed place in their lives, not something we turn to only when it feels natural or easy, but something we intentionally choose again and again.

How many times have we set aside time to pray, only to find our minds immediately pulled elsewhere? The to-do list we haven’t checked off, the laundry still waiting to be folded, the conversation from last week that made us uneasy, all of it rushes in as soon as the silence begins. In those moments, devotion is tested. We are faced with a choice: to remain in the quiet with God or to listen to the noise competing for our attention.

Devotion to prayer does not mean distraction will never come; it means we choose not to be ruled by it. We gently return our focus to God, trusting that He is worth our full presence. Staying in that space, even when it feels uncomfortable or unproductive, is an act of faith. It declares that time with God matters more than the demands clamoring for our thoughts. Over time, it reshapes us. The noise loses its power, and the presence of God becomes our anchor.

Reflection Questions:

  • What distractions most often pull my attention away during prayer?

  • When silence feels uncomfortable, do I rush away or choose to remain with God?

  • How can I practice gently returning my focus to Him?

Praying for you all. Stay blessed!
